Description:
VGF 2 is a paper codex from perhaps around 1200, its leaves measuring 415 × 300 mm. It has a watermark similar to cod. Vatic. gr. 1296, dated to 1204. It is comprised of 410 folia; a few of the original quire signatures are still visible. The verso pages on ff. 4-143 show Arabic numerals (25-165) in a 15th-c. hand, seemingly adjacent. The leaves are mostly badly preserved at the beginning and end, and some are badly damaged; the greater part of f. 47* has been removed. Written space is divided into two columns of 290 × 215 mm, with 20 mm them. There are 40-44 lines in hard point ruling for columns written in the principal hand, and 36-41 in those written by other hands. Most of the book was written by one copyist, but a number of short sections were written by four other hands. Only the main hand has written the first letter of the title in red. In places marginal glosses have been added by the copyists, the principal hand over various titles and between the lines for individual words. The codex has a new paper binding, the spine is in parchment.
