VGF 3 is a paper codex from around 1550-1560, its leaves measuring 365 × 255 m. It has 219 folia and watermarks similar to Briquet no. 51. Written space covers an area of 235 × 125, with 30 lines in hard point ruling. It comprises 25 quires of mostly 4 bifolia, with 1 appended folium. Quire signatures have been added by a 17th-cent. hand, and later corrected by a different hand. Ff. 1r-7r are decorated in different colours; f. 214r is decorated with dark and blue ink, while inscriptions and initials are in dark or yellow ink; elsewhere the inscriptions and initials are rubricated. In the earlier section (up to f. 100r and on f. 191v) there are colour illustrations of war machines, and occasional gaps which have not been filled out. The codex has a 17th-cent. parchment cover.
