Description:
VGF 39 is a paper codex, its leaves measuring 306 × 201 mm. It contains watermarks similar to Briquet no. 549 and an ancre dans un cercle surmontée d’étoile et accompagneé de contremarque watermark not listed by Briquet. It is constructed of 17 quires of mostly 4 bifolia, totalling 129 + 1* + 1** folia. Some quire signatures by the scribe and later hand are still visible. Written space occupies an area of 210/220 × 125/135 mm, spread over 30-31 lines. The majority of the codex was written by two scribes, one of whom also worked on VGF 48 and cod. Leid. Scal. 12 and Genev. Bibl. Publ. ms. gr. 34. This scribe was also responsible for the rubricated decorations, inscriptions, and initials. It has a 17th-c. parchment binding, with gold decoration and gilt-edged pages. The codex used to contain two parchment folia between the cover and the codex, whose fragments now survive in BPL 2513.
