Description:
VGF 40 is a paper codex, its leaves measuring 305 × 215 mm. It contains watermarks similar to Briquet nos. 7603-760, but with the letters TMB). It is constructed of 10 quires of 1-4 bifolia + 2 folia, totalling 60 folia. Quire signatures are visible throughout: αi–iiii, βi–iiii, etc. until ff. 47-60, which are labelled a-o, recto and verso. Written space occupies an area of 265/275 × 185/190 mm, spread over 38-49 lines on ff. 1r-46r and an area of 250 × 160/165 mm over 31-33 lines on ff. 50r-60r. The codex has a 17th-c. sheepskin cover, made for Melchisédech Thévenot.
