VGF 51 is paper convolute of two manuscripts, its leaves measuring 300 × 200. It contains 40 +1* folia. It is held together by a new dark leather cover (on which the emblem of Leiden University is stamped).
Part 1 (ff. 1r* + 1r-18r) contains watermarks similar to Briquet nos. 2401 and 3668. It is formed from a single quire. The written space covers an area of 245 × 175 mm, spread over 46-52 lines (f. 1r-4v), 205/210 × 140 mm over 30-31 lines (ff. 5r-14v), and 220 × 170 mm over 34 lines (f. 15). Initials and inscriptions are rubricated. It contains diagrams and geometric forms. The figure of man can be seen on f. 8r and a snake on f. 10v.
Part 2 (ff. 19-40) contains watermarks similar to Briquet nos. 11652-656. It is constructed from 2 quires of 5 bifolia. Quire signatures have been added by a later hand. The text covers an area of 220 × 140 mm, over 32 lines. Most of this section appears to have been written by Michael Apostolius. Initials and numbers are rubricated.
