Description:
VGQ 20 is a silk codex, its leaves measuring 232 × 160/165 mm. It is a convolute of 3 codices, totalling 328 folia. It has a new paper cover.
Part 1 (ff. 1-232) dates to the 13th c. It is constructed of 30 quires of mostly 4 bifolia. Some folia and quires are numbered. Written space occupies and area 175 × 110 mm, over 35 lines (ff. 7r-29v) and 185 × 105 mm over 37 lines (ff. 30r-232r). One scribe wrote the whole section, using a very small script. Inscriptions and initials were probably once rubricated.
Part 2 (ff. 233-252) dates to the 13th c. It is constructed of 2 quires. Written space occupies an area of 190/200 × 130 mm, over 39-43 lines (ff. 233-238) and 190 × 130 mm over 42 lines (f. 247r-v). Three scribes worked on this section. Inscriptions and initials are rubricated.
Part 3 (ff. 253r-328r) dates to the 13th c. It is constructed of 10 quires of mostly 4 bifolia. At ff. 316-320 and 327-238, newer paper folia have replaced lost folia. Quire signatures used to be visible (see f. 308v). Written space covers an area of 175 × 105 mm (ff. 253r-264v), 180 × 125 mm (ff. 265r-267r), 175/180 × 120 mm (ff. 267v-323v) over 37-38 lines. Two scribes wrote the greater part of the codex. Initials and inscriptions were rubricated, but have now largely faded.
