Description:
VGQ 23 is a paper codex, its leaves measuring 220 × 150 mm. It is a convolute of three parts, containing 117 folia. It as a 17th-c. parchment cover, of the kind associated with A. Petavius.
Part 1 (ff. 1-62) is constructed of 8 quires of mostly 4 bifolia + 4 folia. It contains watermarks similar to Briquet nos. 5424, 5104, and 10623-626. Text covers an area of 135/150 × 90/95 mm over 17-30 lines. It appears to have been written by two scribes. A handful of initials and titles are rubricated. Scholia appear in the margins and between lines, written by a variety of hands. A section appears to be missing.
Part 2 (ff. 63-110) is constructed of 6 quires of 4 bifolia. ff. 79-110 contain watermarks similar to Briquet 11982. Text covers an area of 110 × 95 mm over 19-23 lines (ff. 63-78) and 170/175 × 95/100 mm over 32-33 lines (ff. 79-109v). It appears to have been written by two scribes. Titles are rubricated, except in the first book. Scholia appear in the margins and between lines, written by a variety of hands.
Part 3 (ff. 111-117) is constructed from a single quire. No watermarks are visible. Text covers an area of 165/175 × 75/90 mm over 26-30 lines.
