Description:
VGQ 57 is a parchment palimpsest, its leaves measuring 200 × 140 mm. It is constructed of 14 quires of mostly 4 bifolia, totalling 103 folia. Quire signatures were added at the beginning of quires by the copyist, and at the end by a 17th-c. hand. Written space occupies an area of 145/150 × 90 mm over 23 lines (ff. 98r-103v: 24-26 lines). Decorations, titles, and initials were once rubricated, although this has now faded. The codex has a new paper cover. The older, overwritten text appears to date to the 12-13th c. There are 32-33 lines on the earlier folia, in hard point ruling. A handful of folia were written in two columns. The codex appears to have contained works by Georgius Syncellus, Theophanes the Confessor, and a theological work.
