The Mamalla style (630-668) was initiated by Narasimhavarman I, and continued by the generations after him. The article describes the architecture and sculptures of the monuments in these styles: the Mahendra-style temples; and the Mamalla-style monuments and cave temple, monolithic temples – including cut-in cave temples and cut-out viharas (popularly called rathas) – and structural temples. The rathas are named after the Pandavas, and dedicated to the worship of Shiva, Durga, Skanda, and other deities.p. 110-118: Anand, Mulk Raj, The Temples and Sculptures under Rajasimha | Rajasimha (c. 695-722) extended certain rock-cut shrines at Mahabalipuram, and constructed the Shore Temple. The article illustrates some of Rajasimha's innovations in sculptural art, and describes the architectural features of the Shore Temple.
