Description:
VLF 5 is a parchment codex from the second half of the 16th c., its leaves measuring 396 x 280 mm. It comprises 15 quires of mostly 6 bifolia. Quire signatures are delineated and occasionally decorated with animal figures. Written space amounts to 295 x 200 mm, divided into 2 columns of 54 lines ruled in dark ink. The text is written in Littera gothica textualis. Fol. 1r has a lavishly decorated major initial. Major initials are also used to denote the start of each new book and are painted red and blue. The start of new chapters receives minor initials, similarly decorated. Paragraph marks are painted red or blue, inscriptions are red. The codex has a 17th-c. cardboard cover with parchment protection, possibly made for Alexandre Pétau.
