Description:
VLF 9 is a paper codex from the second half of the 15th c., its leaves measuring 367 x 285 mm. It is constructed of 10 quires of 5 bifolia, totalling 100 leaves (=200 pages). The first 10 leaves have a watermark similar to Briquet nos 1740-41; leaves 11-30 have a watermark similar to Briquet no. 6269; leaves 31-100 have one similar to Briquet no. 9183. Written space covers 240/245 x 160 mm of 41-46 lines. The text is written in Littera hybrida. While the different books each have a separate index, a 16th-c. hand added an index to books VIII and IX on f. 1r. A painted initial in the top left corner was mutilated at an unknown date - Isaac Vossius seems to have repared the folium, adding the missing letters on a 17th-c. paper leaf. Initials at the beginning of each new book are in blue, with red lines and green decoration. Initials to new chapters and paragraph marks are painted blue or red. The codex has a 17th-c. cardboard binding with parchment protection.
