Description:
VLF 16 is a parchment convolute from the first half of the 12th c., its leaves measuring 345 x 250 mm. The codex has a 17th-c. cardboard binding, protected by sheepskin, typical for codices from the library of Melchisédech Thévenot.
Part 1 (1r-2ra, 2ra-5v, 6r-8rb, 8rb-8va, 8va) comprises 1 quire of 4 bifolia, totalling 8 leaves (16 pages). Written space covers 280 x 190 mm, divided into 2 columns of 45 lines in hard point ruling. The text is written by a single scribe in Minuscula carolina. The scribe might be the same as the one who wrote a major part of VLF 19. Major and minor initials are painted in red and yellow; capitals within the text are filled out in red. Inscriptions are also rubricated.
Part 2 (9r-13v) comprises 1 quire of 3(-1) bifolia, totalling 4 leaves (8 pages). Written space covers 280 x 200 mm, divided into 2 columns of 47 lines in hard point ruling. There may have been three different scribes working on it, writing in Minuscula carolina. The ending might have been written by two additional, somewhat later hands. Omissions have been corrected in the margins. Initials are in red and yellow. Capitals within the text are filled out in red. The last 6 lines were added in the 13th c.
