Description:
VLF 19 is a parchment codex from the first half of the 12th c. It is constructed of 10 quires of 4 bifolia, totalling 80 leaves (160 pages). Quire signatures in capital letters at the bottom of the leaves (added by the scribe), are mostly cut off. Writing space covers 275/280 x 190/195 mm, divided into 2 columns of 47 lines in hard point ruling. The manuscript is mostly written by the same scribe who wrote VLF 16 (part 1), but several other hands collaborated. All wrote in Minuscula sub-carolina. Each new homily starts with major initials which are decorated with animal figures, branches and leaves, painted in different colours. Minor initials at the start of different parts are painted in red and yellow. Capitals within the text are filled out in red. Inscriptions are also rubricated. The codex has a 17th-c. cardboard binding, protected by sheepskin, typical for codices from the library of Melchisédech Thévenot.
