Description:
VLF 24 is a parchment codex from the end of the 9th or 10th c., its leaves measuring 340 x 275 mm. It is constructed of 17 quires of irregular composition, totalling 111 leaves (222 pages). Quire signatures are in the lower margins. A 16th-c. hand added foliation in Roman numerals. Written space covers 295/300 x 215/230 mm, divided into 4 columns of 40-50 lines in hard point ruling. The text was written by 6 scribes in Minuscula carolina. Major initials are partly decorated with animal figures and leaves, some coloured in red, yellow and black. The first letter of each lemma of the glossary is in colour. The codex has a 19th-c. cardboard binding, protected by dark leather (on which the emblem of Leiden University is stamped).
