Description:
VLF 34 is a parchment codex from the second half of the 12th c., its leaves measuring 330 x 210 mm. It comprises 12 quires of 4 bifolia, totalling 96 leaves (192 pages). The scribe wrote quire signatures in Roman numerals in the lower margins. He also made an illustration depicting a map of Asia, Europe and Africa. A 16th-/17th-c. hand added foliation. This same hand corrected the text and wrote comments in the margins. An older hand added animal names in the margins of book XII. Written space covers 230 x 150 mm, divided into 2 columns of 36 lines ruled in dark ink. Initials at the start of a new book are painted blue and red, as are the initials of each new chapter. Inscriptions are rubricated. The codex has a 19th-c. cardboard cover with dark leather protection.
