Description:
VLF 42 is a parchment codex from the second half of the 13th c., its leaves measuring 315 x 215 mm. It is constructed of 24 quires of irregular composition and several added folia, totalling 250 leaves (500 pages). The scribe wrote down catchwords; a later, 18th-c. hand added foliation in Arabic numerals. Written space covers 210/235 x 130/145 mm, divided into 2 columns of 52-62 lines ruled in dark ink. The text is written by several scribes in Littera gothica textualis. Corrections are made in the margins, also by several of the scribes. Some later hands (13th- to 15th-c.) added variant readings and comments about medicine. Minor initials are at the start of each new book and chapter, painted red, blue and violet. Inscriptions are rubricated (only a few are green), some are not filled out. The codex has a 19th-c. cardboard cover with dark leather protection.
