Description:
VLF 55 is a parchment codex from the first half of the 14th c., its leaves measuring 310 x 215 mm. It comprises 18 quires of 4 bifolia, totalling 144 leaves (288 pages). Catchwords (added by the scribe) are sometimes still visible. Written space covers 230 x 155 mm, divided into 2 columns of 33-34 lines ruled in dark ink. The text was written by several scribes in Littera gothica textualis. Fol. 1r contains a major initial in faded red, decorated in several colours and depicting a sitting monk reading a book. The margins are also decorated in several colours; the right margin shows painted birds. Each sermon starts off with minor initials in red or blue. Inscriptions are rubricated, although not all have been filled out. A 15th- or 16th-c. hand numbered each sermon. The codex has a 19th-c. cardboard cover with dark leather protection.
