Author(s):
Martial (40-c. 102/104)
Description:
VLF 65 is a paper codex from the first half of the 15th c., its leaves measuring 305 x 205 mm. It is constructed of 16 quires of mostly 5 bifolia, totalling 160 leaves (320 pages). Catchwords are still visible and seem to have been added by the same scribe who also added quire signatures (many of which have been cut off). Written space covers 205/215 x 120 mm (34-35 lines in hard point ruling). The text is written in Littera cursiva humanistica. F. 1r and f. 4r contain lavishly decorated initials. Each new book starts off with smaller initials, painted blue. The initials for the epigrams have not been filled out. Inscriptions are rubricated up to Book IV. Fol. 4r contains a blue coat of arms, which seems to point to the Alessidi family of Padua. The codex has an 18th-c. cardboard binding protected by multi-coloured paper and a parchment spine.
