Description:
VLF 85 is a parchment convolute which contains 4 different manuscripts. It has an 18th-c. cardboard binding with a red paper protection; its spine and corners are in dark leather.
Part 1 (ff. 1-24) dates from the end of the 11th c., its leaves measure c. 290 x 200 mm. It is constructed of 3 quires of 4 bifolia. Written space covers 235 x 155 mm (35/36 lines in hard point ruling). The text was written by a single scribe in Minuscula carolina, although two other hands wrote a few lines. Initials and inscriptions are in dark ink.
Part 2 (ff. 25-53) dates from the 12th c., its leaves measure c. 285 x 195 mm. It is constructed of 3 quires of 4 bifolia and 1 quire of 5 bifolia minus 5 leaves. Written space covers 225/230 x 140/145 mm, divided into 2 columns of 31-33 lines in hard point ruling. The text was written by two scribes in Minuscula carolina. A few initials and inscriptions are rubricated.
Part 3 (ff. 54-67) dates from the second half of the 10th c., its leaves measure c. 277 x 203 mm. It is constructed of 2 quires of 4 bifolia minus 2 leaves. Written space covers 205 x 145 mm (27 lines in hard point ruling). The text was written by 3 scribes in Minuscula carolina. Initials are mostly in dark ink, without decoration, except for f. 55r.
Part 4 (ff. 68-69) dates from the 14th c., its leaves measure c. 285 x 200 mm. It is constructed of a single quire of 2 bifolia minus 2 leaves. The text is written in Littera gothica textualis.
