Full Description:
The Earl of Dartmouth from Whitehall to Howe. Duplicate letter regarding the recalling of General Gage to England to report on the state of military affairs, and the appointment of William Howe in his abscence to command His Majesty's forces 'within the Colonies lying upon the Atlantic Ocean'. Also authorising the commissioning of General [Guy] Carleton to command the forces 'employed in Canada, and upon its frontiers'.
