Full Description:
Germain to Carleton from Whitehall. On behalf of the king he congratulates Carleton on driving the rebels out of Canada ,hopes to hear that they have been pursued across the Lakes in order to prevent future attacks. In order to comlete his plans he is authorised to take his army beyond limits currently imposed upon him. Once this is achieved Carleton is to assume the difficult task of restoring peace and establishing good order and legal government in Canada. Carleton can please the king by being as successful in this new civilian capacity as he has been in his military command.
