Full Description:
John Stewart to Alexander Cameron. Concerning Howe's sentiments on employing Indians. Stewart expresses his feelings that Indians should not be put on any footing that others of their nation are not. However, he also expresses that the Cherokee Nation themselves are principals in the war; that the defense of them and their land is 'one of the greatest causes of it'. Also concerns a report from a separate nation, that the Cherokees were preparing to join the Lower Creeks, raising suspicions that they were preparing to side with the rebels, and in doing so would become 'our' enemies. Also regards the commisioning of the Colonel [Augustine] Prevost of the 60th Regiment to Brigadier- General to command the Kings troops.
