Full Description:
Howe to Germain. Philadelphia. Acknowledges dispatches numbers 22 and 23, a letter from 11 November and duplicates of dispatches numbered 18, 19, 20, and 21. Concerning the approval from the King regarding the conduct of Sir Henry Clinton and Major General Vaughn, and that this will be transmitted to the officers in New York. Also concerns a revolt in Canada,by dissafected Frenchmen, and that Howe has it on good faith that the rebels have launched an expedition into that province under the Marquis de Lafayette (transporting 4,000 men on 1,000 sledges). Also mentions the dread of an Indian war that the ' back' settlers in the middle provices have reason to fear the resentment of those people for the treacherous murder of a chief warrior of the Shawnee Tribe, named the Cornstalk and of his son, at a late conference held by one of the rebels agents near the mouth of the Great Konhaway River. States that the consequences have already been fatal to many of the [Back Country] inhabitants, and by all accounts, the Indians are not to be pacified.
