Howe to Johnson. Philadelphia. Acknowledges receipt of letters. Johnson's knowledge of the disposition of the Indians, of their present state and experience, leave Howe no room to hesitate upon the proposal. Has written to Clinton to desire that he will confer with the Commodore and will furnish Johnson with a suitable conveyance, in a transport or otherwise. May be inclined to take an assortment of Indian Goods, from Shirreff he can learn the state of the Indian Stores in his possession. Desires that Johnson be as explicit in satisfying Howe by the earliest opportunity.
