Full Description:
General Sir Henry Clinton to Lord George Germain. A letter from New York stating that the Admiral [Richad Howe] had appointed a convoy for troops to be sent to West Indies. Also sent 1,000 men to Pensacola and 2,000 to St Augustine. The loss of 5,000 British rank and file was much felt even though supplimented by Foreign [i.e. German] troops. Additional transfer of troops to Halifax and Bermuda required. Clinton requesting permission to resign his command.
