Full Description:
Lord Amherst to Clinton. Whitehall. The friends of Lieutenant Colonel Craig represent he would prefer the Lieutenant-Colonelcy of the 17th Regiment. Major Duncan McPherson of the 71st is therefore to succeed Lieutenant Colonel Duffe in Lord MacLeod's Regiment, and to be allowed to return homes and proceed to the East Indies. Craig 'had liked to have thrown himself out of the army' by selling the Lieutenant-Colonelcy of the 17th which it is said he disposed of at a very high price instead of selling a majority at the regulation price. The King allows him to be the purchaser of the Lieutenant-Colonelcy of the 56th on account of his good character and services to the crown.
