Germain to Clinton. Whitehall. The body of men who attempted an attack on Jersey have returned to the continent, the largest of their four vessels having been taken and the other three destroyed. Particulars are enclosed in the 'Extraordinary Gazette'. Arbuthnot delayed by lack of wind, his expedition fleet is only in Torbay. Learning from private accounts, Picquet is also delayed going to Domingo and has been driven back to the French coast. Reports that the Marquis de Lafayette is embarking some troops, but it is uncertain if they are destined for North America.
