McLean to Clinton. Penobscot River. Private. Report discussing situation to date. Detachment of 640 men of the 74th and 82nd Regiments, great naval force possessed by the Rebels in these parts, and being left with only one ship of war. Protecting the coast and trade of Nova Scotia, impossibility of affording Boston protection, and lack of provisions.
