Full Description:
Clinton to McLean. Secret. Speculates that Halifax is the eventual target of the Comte d'Estaign's plans. Intends reinforcing the post with troops under General Stirling, but the season is too far advanced to proceed at present. Further reinforcements for Quebec led by General Haldimand have been dispersed at sea. As soon as weather permits the fleet will reassemble. Reports that Sullivan has abandoned his plans on Detroit (for this year) and returned to General washington.
