Full Description:
Campbell to Lieutenant-Colonel L. V. Fuser. Headquarters, Pensacola. Not able to assist with his application for reinforcements of men or ammunition due to the attack on the Mississippi forces by Don Galvez. This effectually cut off the communication of intelligence so he was unaware that American Independency was publicly recognised and proclaimed at by the Spanish at New Orleans on the 20 August. The armed vessel for the protection of the [bayou] lakes was siezed by strategems, and the transport with troops and provisions was captured. Colonel Dixon surrendered by capitulation of all troops, forts and possessions on the Mississippi to the enemy. Loss of upward of 500 select and chosen troops, and left with the inadequate defense of Pensacola.
