Full Description:
Germain to Clinton. Whitehall. Number 54. With regard to the letter written by Clinton but received from the hands of the Duke of Newcastle. His Majesty is pleased to express his satisfaction, given his royal confidence by appointing 'you his sole commissioner and to find that you concurred in the opinion that such appointment should devolve with the commission of Commander-in-Chief'. Duplicate of letter number 48 enclosed which expresses sentiments of request to resign the command.
