Germain to Clinton. Whitehall. Number 55. Discusses the danger with which Jamaica was threatened, Lord Cornwallis's offer to command the detachment, and Count D'Estaing's real destination. The withdrawl of troops from Rhode Island, the dispersion of the transport that carried the reinforcements intended for Canada, and the necessity of strengthening Haldimand's hands. King approves of the attention shown to assist Halifax, the loss of Colonel Simcoe, and a number of appointments including that of Adjutant General.
