Full Description:
Lieutenant-General Knyphausen [Commander of the Hessians] to Washington, from New York. In the absence of Sir Henry Clinton. he has the honour to acknowledge the receipt of his letter of the '19th inst' by Colonel Magaw, and to acquaint him that for the reasons assigned by His Excellency , the gentlemen therein mentioned have his permission to remain until the business they went out upon is completed. As he says, 'it will only detain them a very little time longer than was originall intended'.
