Full Description:
Germain to Clinton. Whitehall. Regarding transports. Announcing the arrival of the 'Anne' transport with Hessian soldiers with the expedition from New York at port in Cornwall. Announced that it had been run foul of by the' Dion' transport and that her main and mizen masts were carried away. Also mentions that intelligence received makes the Lords of the Admiralty eager to hear of progress in the southern provinces, and that they are alarmed for Newfoundland, Halifax and Canada; the latter of which is in Germain's opinion, the chief object of the enemy. Alongside which, clothing, army money and necessaries provided to be sent along with the troops concur in pointing out that country as the ultimate destination of the armament. All possible measures, including returning Brigadier-General Maclean to Halifax, are being taken to halt the project.
