Full Description:
Clinton to William Newton, Assistant Deputy Paymaster-General. Charlestown. Authorising him to issue to Paterson, on his warrants, such sums of money as he may want for subsistence of the regiments in the garrison, and extraordinary expenses. These warrants are not to be considered final unless the command devolves on Paterson before Lord Cornwallis shall have taken up and cancelled the said warrants, and issued his own in their stead.
