Full Description:
[Letter in cypher, no date or names however it was found by comparison to be the same as one at British Museum.] Clinton to Haldimand stating that information received indicates that a French force had sailed around 3 May with seven ships of the line and 20-25 transport vessels. Included with the fleet is an estimated 5,200 land force and they are heading for Canada. Admiral Arbuthnot will be reinforced in proportion. Further intelligence indicates that the force will assemble at Rhode Island before making its way eventually to St John's by the St Lawrence River.
