Full Description:
Haldimand to Clinton. Discusses the situation with regard to [Ethan] Allen and the people of Vermont's wish to be put under British protection. He does not trust him and believes he is able to collect and arm 4,000 men but Haldimand would only be able to collect only half that number if he had to oppose him. Hears that a Spanish packet [vessel] has been brought into York with an authentic copy of a Treaty between the Courts of France and Spain, and [Benjamin] Franklin, in which Congress are to give up the two Floridas to Spain, and the Provinces of Canada and Nova Scotia to the French.
