Full Description:
Campbell to Clinton. Fort George, Penobscot. Has received a letter from the Duke of Argyle respecting the resignation of Captain Campbell of 74th and requesting the company might be sold. In answer to Clinton's desire he sends enclosed a list of officers recommeded for succession. Is informed by Goreham that Leland has been appointed Brigadier General. Remind His Excellency that he is an old Lieutenant Colonel and older Major that Leland. Hopes no injustice will be done to him. Considers it unfortunate to be confined to this place, would be happy to be employed in a more active line. At foot is a list of the officers alluded to.
