Full Description:
Cornwallis to Lieutenant-Colonel Nisbet Balfour. Extract of a letter. Regarding orders given that all inhabitants of the province [of South Carolina who] that have taken part in the revolt are to be punished with the greatest of vigour. This includes imprisonment and confiscation of property. Also ordered that compensation should be made out of their effects to persons who have been injured or oppressed by them. Every [colonial] militia man who has borne arms and then turned to the enemy is to be hanged. Asking Balfour to obey in the strictest manner, the directions he has given.
