Full Description:
Clinton to Amherst. New York. Acknowledges previous letter with regard to Captain Barry of the 52nd Regiment having leave to serve with this army as Deputy Adjutant General. Refers him to his aide-de-camp, Captain St George who presents this for particulars respecting the present situation. 'On the eve of a very important stroke, concerted with the rebel General Arnold, it was discovered that the General has made his escape to us, but we have lost oiur Adjutant General. As it is painful to me to enter into the particulars of this unhappy affair, I am sure you Lordship will forgive me if I refer you to Captain St George'.
