Full Description:
[Clinton] to Campbell. New York. Received letter of 15th ultimo with enclosures. Was happy to comply with the Duke of Argyle's desire to alllow Captain Alexander Campbell to remain in the 74th Regiment. The enterprise under Lieutenant Stockton against Brigadier Wadsworth appears to have been well executed. Congratulates him on promotion to the rank of Colonel as it enables him to appoint him Brigadier-General. Cannot take steps relative to Lieutenant Cheap until official notice is served.
