[Clinton] to Bruce. New York. Fears that Bruce has not received previous letter where he had acquainted him that [John] Campbell had been appointed to the command of Halifax and directing him to repair immediately. But should an accident have prevented his arrival there, he authorizes Bruce to act as Brigadier-General in the province of Nova Scotia until he is joined by Campbell or another officer senior in rank. Also mentions that he will immediately apply to Graves for a convoy to Halifax, the victuallers are much wanted in Canada, and is leaving the protection of St John to Captain Calbeck's Company.
