Full Description:
Clinton to Campbell. New York. Received his previous letter and is happy to find Campbell was to set out for Nova Scotia three days latter as the enemy are desirous of getting possession of Halifax and Penobscott, and may attempt one of them. Though he is appointed to the command at Halifax, there is no necessity to remove the 74th Regiment from Penobscot. Captain Hartcup may go to Europe when the works there are finished. Directs him to enquire about the Indian presents detained by the Assistant Quartermaster General at Halifax, and order them to be given to Mr Franklin if intended for him. The usual supply of provisions to be granted to the Indian inhabitants of the province.
