Full Description:
Clinton to Governor Walter Patterson. New York. As the island of St John's does not come under his district, Clinton is unable to advise on appointments or expenditure. As neither himself nor Howe have ever given any order for constructing works on St Johns, he does not feel authorised to furnish money for the payment of them. He cannot do any more than lay the particular circumstances before the minister. Encloses a copy of a letter from Germain upon the subject, will direct Campbell to remove Hierlehoy's Corps to Halifax, and have given Callbeck a warrant to augment his company to 100 men. has no objection to Callbeck going to Europe.
