Full Description:
Clinton to [Cornwallis]. New York. Honoured by previous letters. A meeting of the 'Flag and General Officers' it is determined that above 5,000 men, rank and file shall be embarked on board the King's ships and the joint exertions of the navy and army made in a few days, to relieve Cornwallis and afterwards to co-operate with him. The fleet consists of 23 sail of the line, three of which are three deckers. Postscript, Admiral Digby is this moment arrived at the Hook with three sail of the line. Requests three or four large seperate 'smokes' [? fireships] may be made available parallel to the entrance of the Chesapeake.
