Full Description:
Clinton to Cornwallis. New York. Two copies of a document, the first in code. Assuring his lordship that he is doing everything in his power to relieve him by a direct move and that he has reason to hope from the assurance given him this day by Admiral Graves that they may pass the Bar by 12 October. If Clinton hears from Cornwallis, his wishes will direct him, otherwise he will make an attempt on Philadelphia by land. If this should draw any part of Washington's force from Cornwallis, it may possibly give him an opportunity of doing something to save his army.
