Full Description:
Clinton to Germain. Your Lordship will have received copies of Lord Cornwallis's letters of the 20 October, his capitulation for the posts of York and Gloucester, and the other papers which accompany it. After several conversations, now has the honour to enclose a copy of a letter with his opinion for Germain's information. Understands that the French troops under Monsieur De Rochambeau remain in Virginia, has not received any accounts from the Carolinas since June, and as can be seen by the returns, he is left with a force totally inadequate for the defence of his post. Mentions how the enemy force on land and sea is superior than theirs and how he fears the most fatal consequences.
