Full Description:
Leslie to Clinton. Camp near Charlestown. Has made every enquiry into Mr Irving and how far and to what extent, Mr Cruden in his present employment interferes with that gentleman. Appears that Irving's commission is entirely and in every respect of a civil nature and necessarily ceased, he presumes, the moment the Colonies were declared in rebellion. A crown officer hitherto acted in this province [of South Carolina] but under a military appointment. Also examined Cruden's commission which is approved of by ministers.
