Jenkinson to Clinton. War Office. Returns papers respecting the losses sustained by the 54th Regiment on its passage from Rhode Island to New York. Encloses a copy of Colonel Eyre's letter of 15 December last on the subject. Remarks on the claims made for this loss, thinks that such can be best settled in America and hopes that Clinton will reconsider them. Maybe allow them if he thinks them justifiable and grant the warrant for the amount required to meet them.
