Full Description:
Alexander Leslie, from his camp near Charlestown to Clinton, forwarding copies of several letters and provides detailed accounts of various military and political events in the region. Includes reports that General Greene has been joined by 200 state troops from North Carolina; they are endeavouring to recruit in both the Carolinas, and to pay the bounty in hard money, besides giving them three slaves of the Tories property in the course of three years service. While Greene has encamped near the Ashley [River] to cover the country with the removal of 'Negroes' to the other side of the Santee, proposals are made to send a force by sea to Port Royal to 'distress the enemy' and oblige [General Anthony] Wayne to fall back on Savanah.
